After the traumatic birth of her first child Lucy becomes a midwife believing she will have the potential to change the world – one birth at a time.

Now 48-years-old, Lucy Saunders, from the seaside holiday town of Manly, has three children and is a midwife with many years experience. She is good at what she does and believes this is her calling in life. As a midwife she is consistently reminded that birth is emotional, beautiful, political, unpredictable, and at all times challenging. For Lucy though, the real challenge is juggling family life – both at home and in the birthing room. How will these two worlds overlap, and to what end?
